SkyRocket Records
Contract Explanation
How's it going? This is Luke Danelon, owner and CEO of Ghost Rocket and Skyrocket Records. The reason you're watching this video and receiving this email is that you have been one of our level two artists that we've selected for our new label roster at Skyrocket Records. So just to let you know before we start, there is a copy of your contract attached to this email that you can click into and review. And we're debating whether or not we want to do this, but we're a very transparent company. And we thought if we get you this contract ahead of time, you can take all the time you need to review it, understand it, and then we can just get right to work, no wasting time. So what I'm going to do right now is I'm going to explain to you your deal. I have a copy of it right in front of me. I'm going to go through it paragraph by paragraph and explain everything to you so you understand what it is that we are offering you. So with that, let's get into your contract, all right? Okay, so this is a level two artist label agreement. The first paragraph is just basically who we are, who you are. It talks about how things start right when we all sign, and it talks about how we're going to promote one song together. If we want to do more after that, we can always talk about it, but this is a single deal we're offering you. Okay? Paragraph two gets into label services provided. So the label will be matching the artist spend dollar for dollar. Like I said in my last video, this is a dollar for dollar deal by providing the following to artists. Promotion of one single designed to create organic royalty earning streams on Spotify for artists. We don't mess around with bots or any of that crap. Number two is executing custom marketing for artists. Three is pitching to curators and marketing partners on artist's behalf. Four is transparent data collection, reporting, and optimization recommendations based on how your song is performing. What this all basically means is we're going to monitor your campaign. If it's going well, we're going to let you know. If you want to invest further into it, cool, we can help you do that. If there's a problem, we'll know before you. Okay? And then full artist relations support via email and phone whenever possible. We obviously can't take phone calls 24 seven, but we're always on our inboxes. So if you have a question, shoot us an email. We will always respond to you. And if it requires a phone call, we will absolutely make time for you. Our whole team is real people. So no big deal at all. Okay? Moving on. Paragraph number three, single marketing term. This is where we talk about what we're going to be doing for you and your level of investment. And this is completely up to you. We have different packages. We did a whole bunch of surveying to see what would fit people best. And we believe we've come up with some options that are the best for everybody to fit within your financial abilities. So that's really what it's all about is making sure this program works for you. It's not about what we want. It's about what you want and what you need and what you can afford. Okay? So what it says is artist is hereby requesting the label facilitate the purchase of a specialized song promotional marketing campaign on their behalf. This is what we talked about, how you're going to have to pay for your advertising. So we're going to be the ones to go ahead and buy it for you. We have relationships with so many different companies and curators and playlist owners all across the world. And we buy advertising for our whole label. So we get way, way, way better deals than the average person can. Also, we have a lot more influence. So this gives us the ability to get better results than anyone could get on their own. And that's what we're here to do as a label is to get you further than you could on your own. So that's basically what that is. And then it gets into what your budget is each month for a total of X amount of months. And we are hereby agreeing to do it. And then it's basically saying that you guys can pay upfront or you can pay monthly. Either way, it doesn't matter to us. We're not like other labels. We're not going to charge you interest or all that other crap for recoupment. If you can pay all upfront, great. If you need to pay by the month, fantastic. No problem. Number four, marketing viability and refund policy. So this is actually something I think you're going to like to hear. Basically, when we approve you, we send you out to our marketing network and they also have to approve you. There's tons of curators that look at our music. So each of these people has to approve things. So if for some reason our network doesn't think your song is viable, we have some options for you. Option number one is we'll notify you and you can submit one alternate song for promotion. If this second song is also not viable, we do have the opportunity for you to work with us in a social media capacity instead. We can do marketing that way. The good news about that is there's no gatekeepers there. So you can decide for yourself what you want to do and we can help you run all your own ads. But again, that's a backup plan as needed. And in the event that you still don't want to do that and you don't want to do social media marketing, we will give you 100% refund. There's going to be some processing fees through our payment platforms, like a dollar or less, a couple of pennies or something. But aside from that, we'll just be able to refund everything right to you. Revenue and ownership of music. So this is one of the things that makes us very, very different from almost every other label out there. We have very, very low commissions and we actually are not taking commissions on every stream. We're only taking them when you reach milestones. So our rate is going to be a $9 commission for every 10,000 spins we get you. We're so confident in our ability to market that we don't need to worry about billing you for every single stream. We know we're going to hit your numbers. So it's going to be an easy situation. It's going to cost you $9 every time you hit 10,000 plays and increments of that. So it's a very, very low cost for you. And it's something where we both stay committed to achieving the goals we set forward, right? And once the campaign term ends, the label is no longer entitled to any further commissions. This is actually another thing that's very, very different. Labels, when they work with you, they'll often say, we've built your song, so we're entitled to commissions forever. We're not doing that. We're only taking commissions during the period that we're working together. So this is, again, something that differentiates us a lot and it's very much to your financial advantage. So we're trying to make this as artist-friendly as humanly possible. In terms of ownership, we are going to give you 100% ownership of your material. We are not going to take ownership of your song. We're not going to be overseeing your distribution and controlling your money and all of that kind of stuff. The power stays in your hands. So as you can see, we are a very independent, artist-friendly company. We are not trying to own you. We're not trying to nickel and dime you for pennies on the dollar every time you get a model. We want you to win. We're very confident and we think this is the fairest way to do it. The other two paragraphs in here are just about independent contractor status. This basically just says we're not forming a company or a joint venture together. That's something that is basically in every contract. And mediation and venue, this is, again, a very standard term in every single contract. So my goal when we wrote this was to make it as short as humanly possible. I tried to get it down to one page. I think we're at like two and a half pages. And really, after this, it's a signature page and the rest of it is just information. And I'll read the information off because I think this is important to you. It's about next steps. So after you sign this agreement and it has been approved in our system, you're going to receive a copy of this signed agreement via email. It may take you some time. Please do not submit a second contract. That creates a legal nightmare for you guys and for us. If you click submit once, you'll get a message that says, congratulations, you've submitted something like that. And just wait for your agreement. We will send you one. If you have a problem, send us an email and we'll take care of it. All right. Once the contract is signed by both of us, you are going to get an email. It might take a day or two called artist deliverables checklist. This is when you give us all the information we need to actually do our pitching and our marketing for you. So that's going to come by. So keep an eye out for that. And other than that, this is a pretty straightforward deal. It's as simple and plain English as I could possibly make it. Once you're happy with everything, we are ready to move forward so we can get right to work. That's it. All the best. We'll be talking soon. Again, I'm Luke Danilon, owner and CEO of Ghost Rocket and Sky Rocket Records. Talk soon.
